Dashboards
What’s the difference between a Dashboard created by Branch and one that I own?
Dashboards created by Branch are static and the same for all users. Learn how to create a Dashboard you own in our general guide. The key difference once you are inside a Dashboard you own is that you can now edit it.
Although you can’t edit Dashboards created by Branch, you can copy the Dashboard first, then edit the copied version.
Are Dashboards shared with everyone by default?
No. When you create a Dashboard, it is not automatically available to everyone in the app. Learn how to share Dashboards in our general guide.
What’s the difference between Dashboard edit mode and widget edit mode?
There are two edit levels. At the Dashboard level, you can rearrange and edit the elements on the screen and delete widgets, but you are not changing the data inside a widget. To change the data itself, open the edit mode for the individual widget.
Why do I sometimes save a widget and sometimes pin it?
When you edit a single existing widget, you save it. When you build a new widget, you are in a general editing area, so instead of saving you pin it. Pinning lets you add the same widget to more than one Dashboard, including another Dashboard a colleague has given you edit access to, without recreating the work.
How do I add a dimension (like campaign or channel) to a widget?
Open the widget’s edit mode, then add the column you want. You can type the name to use autocomplete, or search and scroll to browse the available options. Select Go to run the data, then save. For the full list of columns you can add, see Create and configure a widget.
Reporting data
Why are dimensions and metrics split into different data sources?
Main use cases are separated into different data sources so you are not overwhelmed by every dimension and metric at once, and because not all of that data can fit in a single table. Each data source makes a different set of dimensions available, and you can use one or more of them in a single Dashboard or widget. Learn more in the Analysis Data Sources Reference.
What’s the difference between the Activity and Activity Extended data sources?
Activity is the default data source for most reporting and contains the most commonly used dimensions. Activity Extended is a more comprehensive version that includes a wider range of fields and dimensions. If you can’t find a field in Activity, check Activity Extended. See the full field lists in the Analysis Data Sources Reference.
Where do I find link title (marketing title) in reporting?
Link-level fields like link title live in the Link Analytics data source. Because there are so many links, these fields can’t all be combined into one general table, but you can add a Link Analytics widget to the same Dashboard as your other reporting. See the Analysis Data Sources Reference for the available link dimensions.
What’s the difference between organic and attributed, and how do I see organic data?
Organic means unattributed: events that have not been attributed to any marketing channel, such as links, ads, or banners. To see only organic data, add a filter where attributed is false.
If I don’t filter by attributed, what data am I seeing?
You’re seeing everything: both attributed events (where a click on a link or ad was found) and organic events (where nothing was attributed). You always start with all of your data, then add filters to narrow it, so your totals always make sense.
How do I filter a report to show only part of my data?
Use a filter to narrow from all of your data down to just the data you want to look at. Filters can be applied at the Dashboard level or to individual widgets. Learn how to configure a filter in our general guide.
Where can I find definitions for metrics and fields?
Definitions for the fields available in each data source are documented in the Analysis Data Sources Reference.
Custom events
How do I report on a Custom Event?
Branch Standard Events are automatically available when you create a widget. Custom Events are not automatically available; instead, you add a Custom Event Template to your widget and specify which Custom Event you want to track by entering its name exactly as it appears in your Branch data. Follow the steps in Display Custom Events.
Can I track more than one Custom Event?
Yes. Each Custom Event needs its own template slot, and you can track up to five Custom Events (one per template slot). See Use multiple Custom Events for details.
Ivy
What can Ivy do?
Ivy is context-specific. In reporting, Ivy helps you build widgets and answers questions about your data at both the Dashboard and widget levels. For links, Ivy can help you create links.
How do I check what data Ivy used to answer a reporting question?
Ivy’s answers are based on a specific data source and set of columns. Select Edit on Ivy’s answer to see exactly which models and columns it used, so you can confirm it’s pulling from the data you expect. Learn more about working with Ivy.
